• This DTC is recorded when the torque reduction control operates to prevent the differential journal from burning or seizure. The DTC does not indicate a malfunction.

DTC P1712:00

Prevents the differential journal from burning or seizure

DETECTION CONDITION

•  Under the following conditions, a difference between rotation speed of left and right driving wheels is 490 rpm or more.

―  Vehicle speed is 80 km/h (49 mph) or less

―  DSC OFF switch is On (DSC/TCS not operating)

―  Wheel speed signal is normal

Diagnostic support note

•  The check engine light does not illuminate.

•  The automatic transaxle warning light does not illuminate.

•  PENDING CODE is not available.

•  FREEZE FRAME DATA is not available.

•  The DTC is stored in the PCM memory.

POSSIBLE CAUSE

•  A difference occurs between the rotation speed of the left and right drive wheels under the following conditions:

―  Extracting vehicle from mud

―  Tires spin on slippery road

DTC P1712:00	Prevents the differential journal from burning or seizure

Diagnostic procedure

STEP	INSPECTION		ACTION
1	VERIFY MALFUNCTION SYMPTOM • Has the customer indicated that there is a lack of power?	Yes	Go to the next step.
1		No	Go to Step 3.
2	VERIFY THAT VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN ON MUD OR SLIPPERY ROAD • Connect the M-MDS to the DLC-2. • Verify the following monitoring value using the PID/data monitor function. ― DGP_DIS_1 (traveled distance since last recording of DTC P1712:00) • Verify with the customer if the vehicle had been driven on a muddy or slippery road at the traveled distance indicated by the above monitoring value. • Has the customer driven on a muddy or slippery road?	Yes	Explain to the customer that the torque reduction control operates to prevent the differential journal from burning or seizure, however, this does not indicate a malfunction. After explanation, go to the next step.
2		No	Verify that the cause of the lack of power is engine-related. (See SYMPTOM DIAGNOSTIC INDEX [MZR 1.6].) After inspection, go to the next step.
3	VERIFY NO DTCs ARE PRESENT • Turn the ignition switch off, and then turn the ignition switch to the ON position (Engine off). • Verify the DTCs recorded in the PCM (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM DTC INSPECTION [FN4A-EL].) • Are any DTCs other than P1712:00 recorded?	Yes	Go to the applicable DTC inspection (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM DTC TABLE [FN4A-EL].)
3		No	Go to the next step.
4	CLEAR DTC P1712:00 • Clear the DTC using the M-MDS. • Turn the ignition switch off, and then turn the ignition switch to the ON position (Engine off). • Verify the DTCs recorded in the PCM. (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM DTC INSPECTION [FN4A-EL].) • Has DTC P1712:00 been recorded?	Yes	Repeat Step 4.
4		No	DTC troubleshooting completed.
