Description

Radar performance malfunction

Detection condition
•  BSM control module detected malfunction in misalignment.
Fail-safe function
•  Blind spot monitoring (BSM) system is stopped.
Possible cause
•  Rear bumper dirt or foreign matter (reflective object) is adhered.
•  Dirt or foreign matter (reflective object) on BSM control module.
•  Blind spot monitoring (BSM) radar test was not performed.
•  Deviation of blind spot monitoring (BSM) radar sensor axis
•  BSM control module malfunction

INSPECT REAR BUMPER SURFACE
•  Visually inspect the rear bumper surface for the following:
―  Dirt
―  Adhered foreign matter (reflective object)
•  Is the rear bumper normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Remove dirt or foreign matter (reflective object), then go to Step 5.

INSPECT AREA AROUND BSM CONTROL MODULE
•  Visually inspect the area around the BSM control module for the following:
―  Dirt
―  Adhered foreign matter (reflective object)
•  Is the area around the BSM control module normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Remove dirt or foreign matter (reflective object), then go to Step 5.

VERIFY CONTROL MODULE INSTALLATION CONDITION
•  Inspect the following:
―  Deformation of body or bracket around BSM control module
―  BSM control module installation condition
•  Is the BSM control module installed correctly?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part, then go to Step 5.

PERFORM BLIND SPOT MONITORING (BSM) RADAR TEST
•  Perform the blind spot monitoring (BSM) radar test.
•  Drive the vehicle.
•  Retrieve the BSM control module DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Is the same DTC displayed?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to Step 6.

VERIFY THAT REPAIRS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED
•  Perform the blind spot monitoring (BSM) radar test.
•  Drive the vehicle.
•  Retrieve the BSM control module DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Is the same DTC displayed?
Yes
Repeat the inspection from Step 1.
•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the BSM control module.
Go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
6
VERIFY IF OTHER DTCs DISPLAYED
•  Are any other DTCs displayed?
Yes
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
