Warning
•  If this DTC is detected, the system will enter the fail-safe function to ensure safety. If a specified period of time has elapsed or the vehicle has been driven for a specified period of time or more while in fail-safe mode, the ignition will remain stuck in off and the engine cannot be started. Therefore, perform the malfunction diagnosis while the engine can be started. In addition, after having performed the malfunction diagnosis, verify that this DTC is not detected with the steering wheel locked. If the DTC is not detected, the system returns to normal from the fail-safe function.
Note
•  When changing to the fail-safe mode, the push button start indicator light (amber) flashes.

Description

Steering lock malfunction

Detection condition
•  Start stop unit detects malfunction in the steering lock of the internal start stop unit.
Fail-safe function
•  The system will enter the fail-safe function to ensure safety. If a specified period of time has elapsed or the vehicle has been driven for a specified period of time or more while in fail-safe mode, the ignition will remain stuck in off and the engine cannot be started.

PERFORM DTC INSPECTION AND VERIFY START STOP UNIT MALFUNCTION
•  Clear the DTC for the start stop unit using the M-MDS.
•  Retrieve the start stop unit DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Is the same DTC displayed?
Yes
Repeat the inspection from Step 1.
•  If the malfunction recurs, replace the start stop unit.
Go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY IF OTHER DTCs DISPLAYED
•  Are any other DTCs displayed?
Yes
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the applicable DTC troubleshooting.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
