Engine overspeed condition

DETECTION CONDITION
•  PCM detects that the engine speed is 5,670 rpm or more.
Diagnostic support note
•  This is an intermittent monitor (other).
•  The check engine light does not illuminate.
•  FREEZE FRAME DATA is not available.
•  Snapshot data is available.
•  DTC is stored in the PCM memory.
FAIL-SAFE FUNCTION
Not applicable
POSSIBLE CAUSE
•  ATX system malfunction (ATX)
―  Excessive rotation due to improper gear lock
•  Malfunction caused by the following driving operations:
―  Excessive rotation due to improper shift operation
―  Deceleration using improper gear, and descending slope
•  Mechanical (engine) malfunction
―  Fuel injector malfunction
•  PCM malfunction

RECORD VEHICLE STATUS AT TIME OF DTC DETECTION TO UTILIZE WITH REPEATABILITY VERIFICATION
Note
•  Recording can be facilitated using the screen capture function of the PC.
•  Record the snapshot data on the repair order.
Go to the next step.

VERIFY RELATED SERVICE INFORMATION AVAILABILITY
•  Verify related Service Information availability.
•  Is any related Service Information available?
Yes
Perform repair or diagnosis according to the available Service Information.
•  If the vehicle is not repaired, go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY RELATED PENDING CODE AND/OR DTC
•  Switch the ignition off, then ON (engine off).
•  Perform the Pending Trouble Code Access Procedure and DTC Reading Procedure.
•  Is the PENDING CODE/DTC P0336:00 or P0337:00 also present?
Yes
Go to the applicable PENDING CODE or DTC inspection.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY DTC RELATED FUEL SYSTEM PART
•  Perform the Pending Trouble Code Access Procedure and DTC Reading Procedure.
•  Is a DTC related to a fuel system part stored?
Yes
Go to the applicable PENDING CODE or DTC inspection.
No
ATX:
•  Go to the next step.
MTX:
•  Go to Step 6.

VERIFY ATX RELATED DTC
•  Retrieve TCM DTCs using the M-MDS.
•  Are any DTCs present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT EFFECT OF VEHICLE CONDITION FOR MALFUNCTION
•  Verify how the customer drives the vehicle by asking the customer the following:
―  Improper shift operation
―  Deceleration using improper gear, and descending slope
•  Is the use situation as indicated above?
Yes
Explain to the customer that the vehicle is normal. (malfunction due to customer’s improper driving operation)
If there is a concern with customer’s driving, provide the customer some pertinent advice (such as gear selection, how to use manual mode).
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT FUEL INJECTOR OPERATION
•  Perform the Fuel Injector Operation Inspection.
•  Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the inspection results, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY DTC TROUBLESHOOTING COMPLETED
•  Always reconnect all disconnected connectors.
•  Clear the DTC from the PCM memory using the M-MDS.
•  Start the engine and warm it up completely.
•  Drive the vehicle.
•  Perform the DTC Reading Procedure.
•  Is the same DTC present?
Yes
Replace the PCM, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.

VERIFY AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE
•  Perform the “AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE”.
•  Are any DTCs present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
DTC troubleshooting completed.
