IGNITER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

Warning

•  Incorrect servicing of the discharge headlights could result in electrical shock. Before servicing the discharge headlights, always refer to the service warnings. (See DISCHARGE HEADLIGHT SERVICE WARNINGS.)

Igniter (LH)

1.  Turn the steering wheel to the right until it locks.

2.  Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [MZR 1.6].) (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [SKYACTIV-G 1.5, SKYACTIV-G 2.0, SKYACTIV-G 2.5].) (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [SKYACTIV-D 2.2].) (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [SKYACTIV-D 1.5].)

3.  Partially peel back the front mudguard (LH). (See MUDGUARD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

4.  Turn the cover counterclockwise and remove it in the direction of arrow (1) shown in the figure.

5.  Turn the igniter counterclockwise and pull out it in the direction of arrow (2) shown in the figure.

6.  While pressing the connector tab in the direction of arrow (3) shown in the figure, press the igniter in the direction of arrow (4) to detach the connector tab from the igniter.

7.  Disconnect the connector and remove the igniter. (See Igniter Installation Note (With AFS).)

8.  Install in the reverse order of removal.

Igniter (RH) (MZR 1.6, SKYACTIV-G 1.5, SKYACTIV-G 2.0, SKYACTIV-G 2.5)

1.  Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [MZR 1.6].) (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [SKYACTIV-G 1.5, SKYACTIV-G 2.0, SKYACTIV-G 2.5].)

2.  Turn the cover counterclockwise and remove it in the direction of arrow (1) shown in the figure.

3.  Turn the igniter counterclockwise and pull out it in the direction of arrow (2) shown in the figure.

4.  While pressing the connector tab in the direction of arrow (3) shown in the figure, press the igniter in the direction of arrow (4) to detach the connector tab from the igniter.

5.  Disconnect the connector and remove the igniter. (See Igniter Installation Note (With AFS).)

6.  Install in the reverse order of removal.

Igniter (RH) (SKYACTIV-D 1.5, SKYACTIV-D 2.2)

1.  Turn the steering wheel to the left until it locks.

2.  Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [SKYACTIV-D 1.5].) (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [SKYACTIV-D 2.2].)

3.  Partially peel back the front mudguard (RH). (See MUDGUARD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

4.  Turn the cover counterclockwise and remove it in the direction of arrow (1) shown in the figure.

5.  Turn the igniter counterclockwise and pull out it in the direction of arrow (2) shown in the figure.

6.  While pressing the connector tab in the direction of arrow (3) shown in the figure, press the igniter in the direction of arrow (4) to detach the connector tab from the igniter.

7.  Disconnect the connector and remove the igniter. (See Igniter Installation Note (With AFS).)

8.  Install in the reverse order of removal.

Igniter Installation Note (With AFS)

Caution

•  If the igniter is installed in the wrong direction, the igniter may contact the housing when the AFS operates, causing the AFS not to operate normally. After installing the igniter to the position shown in the figure, verify that the igniter does not contact the housing.
